Venezuela: Chavez sends troops to close 70 shops

Radio Netherlands - The Venezuelan army has forced around 70 shops to close after they introduced major price increases in response to the devaluation of the national currency, the bolivar.

President Hugo Chávez had warned that he would take tough action against companies that used the devaluation to raise their prices.

Some shops remained closed on the first day of the devaluation, while others were busier than usual, as shoppers rushed to make purchases ahead of feared price rises.
