Turkey: Turkey takes stand against polygamous marriages for foreigners

Today's Zaman reports the Interior Ministry is taking a stand against foreigners residing in Turkey who marry more than one spouse in accordance with what may be their own national laws. The ministry noted that polygamy is at odds with Turkish family law, saying, "This is in anathema with our public order."

The issue came to a head when an unnamed Nigerian citizen in Turkey wanted to marry another foreigner in Turkey. The man already had more than one wife in Nigeria.
