Landmines: Cunene - Over five million square meters cleared of landmines

Ondjiva - At 5.3 million square meters were cleared of landmines in Cunene province, during the year 2014, reported today, Monday, in Ondjiva, the liaison officer of Intersectoral National Commission for Demining and Humanitarian Assistance (CNIDAH) Mario Satipamba.

Speaking to ANGOP about the sector's activity in the past year, the assistant reported that the mine clearance work took place in the districts of Cuanhama, Ombadja, Namacunde, Cahama, Cuvelai and Curoca.

In the period in question were collected 10 anti-personnel landmines, 14 anti-tank, 8,172 unexploded explosive device and 107,243 various metals.

Mario Satipamba stressed that the demining actions were accompanied by lectures on the dangers of landmines.

The CNIDAH in Cunene controls three operators of mining, specifically the Brigade of the Angolan Armed Forces, the National Demining Institute (INAD) and the NGO "Terra Mae".
