Economy: Malaysia to impose new goods and services tax

Thousands of people in Malaysia are expected to protest against the government's plan to impose a goods and services tax. Basic food items including rice, and public services such as healthcare will be exempt from the planned tax tht is to be introduced next April. Analysts are generally positive about the while opponents of the tax say it is regressive because it will end up hurting the poor more than the rich.
