Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and visiting Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Samuel Santos Lopez in a meeting on Tuesday, stressed expansion of bilateral ties.

Iran and Nicaragua have good potentials for cooperation in all fields including economy, industry and agriculture, Larijani noted.

Lopez, for his part, underlined the important role of Tehran in the establishment of peace and stability in the region and welcomed promotion of relations in all fields particularly in the field of economy.

In recent years, Iran has been seeking to enhance its relations with Latin American countries within international organizations such as the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), whose rotating presidency is currently held by the Islamic Republic.

Official statistics released by International Monetary Fund (IMF) show that Tehran’s trade with Latin American countries reaches more than 3 billion US dollars annually.
