Clashes between the army (SPLA) and David Yau Yau rebels have intensified in recent weeks in Pibor, Jonglei State.

Fighting has also been reported in neighboring Pochalla County with reports of child abductions and cattle raids in Dakteek village of Burator Payam.

Up to 200 cows were stolen from Burator over the weekend, Pochalla County Commissioner, Joseph Okello Wello, said.

Mr Okello said the government had responded by sending more soldiers to the area.

Army spokesperson Col. Phillip Aguer said the rebels resumed attacks on the 16th of June and continued until Saturday.

Mr Aguer told Radio Miraya that four soldiers and a chief have been wounded so far.
