Middle East: Iran, Syria ink MOU on economic cooperation, transfer of technology

Tehran, Jan 16, IRNA – Islamic Republic of Iran and Syria on Wednesday signed memorandum of understanding on economic cooperation and construction of power plant.

The agreement was signed by energy officials of the two countries in presence of Iranian first Vice-President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi and Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi.

Based on the agreement Iran is to supply the engineering services for transmission or generation of electricity to Syrian national grid.

The value of the contract is projected around euro 50 million and 20 months period has been envisaged for implementation of the project by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Rahimi and al-Halqi are scheduled to hold a joint press conference later in the day.

Syrian PM arrived in Tehran on Tuesday at the head of a high-ranking political and economic delegation to hold talks with Iranian senior officials.

Wael Nader al-Halqi will leave Tehran for Damascus this evening.
