Tehran, Nov 27, IRNA -- Iran on Tuesday decried delay for Conference on making the Middle East free from nuclear weapons scheduled to be held in Helsinki, Finland, in December, saying that the US administration has failed to honor its obligations toward Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that Tel Aviv regime is the only obstacle to create a Middle East free from nuclear weapons.

Expressing regrets at the US objection to hold a conference on the Middle East free from nuclear weapons slated for December, he said US new move to halt the conference is a sign of its unrealistic claims, contradictory behavior and following double standard in the field of Non-Proliferation Treaty and establishment of international peace and security.

He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has been the vanguard of initiative to create a nuclear weapons-free Middle East.

Mehmanparast underlined the full, effective and unconditional implementation the contents of United Nations Resolution 1995 and said the US admitted its objection to hold the conference in line with the illegitimate interests of the Zionist regime.

He said holding the conference in 2012 have been the result of a consensus made by Non-Proliferation Treaty member states, therefore Zionist regimes nuclear arsenals and its non-commitment to international treaties are the main and only obstacle to create a nuclear weapon-free Middle East.

He ruled out any preconditions by any country to hold the conference and called for putting pressure on Tel Aviv to destroy its nuclear arsenals and sign up for NPT.
