Tehran, Aug 31, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the Islamic Republic of Iran is completely ready for providing any assistance to the Palestinians in line with reaching a common understanding and national reconciliation among the Palestinian brothers.

President Ahmadinejad made the above remarks in a meeting with the visiting Palestinian Self-Ruled Authority chief, Mahmud Abbas, on the sidelines of the 16th Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Tehran on Thursday.

He described the issue of Palestine as one of the most important and most complicated problems facing the regional countries.

'Palestine of today is the most important issue of the region and even an international issue. All parts of the world are somehow facing this issue,' President Ahmadinejad noted.

The president pointed out that the Islamic Republic of Iran is the only country that has never recognized the Zionist regime and it believes that the Zionists are occupiers who kill the Palestinians by imposing their presence in the region.

He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always announced that Palestine belongs to all Palestinians and it is our belief that the Palestinians themselves should determine their fate.

The Palestinian Authority chief, Mahmud Abbas, for his part said that he is happy that he has been provided with the opportunity to talk with President Ahmadinejad face-to-face on the sidelines of the 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Tehran.

'In view of the prevailing regional and international conditions, we will do our best to safeguard and stabilize the existence of Palestinians and their land. We are talking with our brothers in Gaza Strip to reach a political plan for achieving overall unity and understanding,' Abbas added.

'I am fully aware of the value of unity and national reconciliation in Palestine and I know that the Zionist regime benefits and become happy more than anyone else from the differences among Palestinians. Therefore, I announced our readiness for resuming talks with our brothers in Gaza.'
