South Sudan: Peacekeepers on alert over “lack of trust” in Sudan

A lack of trust between Sudan and the recently independent South Sudan could provide a potential flashpoint for trouble in 2012…that’s according to the head of peacekeeping at the United Nations.

Herve Ladsous says the United Nations will be keeping a close eye on developments there and in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

And despite that concern, the number of peacekeepers around the world, currently numbering around 120,000 is expected to decline over the next 12 months.

Daniel Dickinson asked Mr Ladsous about the outlook for 2012.
