Gordon Brown - the man and his clothes

GQ Magazine has named Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the world's worst dressed man. Personally I do not think it is his fault. No Siree. I blame his childhood.

When he was but a lad braving the harsh Scottish winters, he was constantly told, 'You make sure you cover up well laddy". Although he has become adept at covering up, perhaps it would have saved a lot of problems, had those childhood instructions been rather more specific!

Of course he is not the only leader to suffer wardrobe-dysfuctionality. Cast your mind back to your own childhood and you may recall Hans Christian Anderson's tale of the Emperor's New Clothes.

"An Emperor who cares for nothing but his wardrobe hires two weavers who promise him the finest suit of clothes from a fabric invisible to anyone who is unfit for his position or "just hopelessly stupid". The Emperor cannot see the cloth himself, but pretends that he can for fear of appearing unfit for his position or stupid; his ministers do the same. When the swindlers report that the suit is finished, they dress him in mime and the Emperor then marches in procession before his subjects. A child in the crowd calls out that the Emperor is wearing nothing at all and the cry is taken up by others."

Perhaps that is why Gordon Brown is considered to be the world's worst dressed man. He has been believing the spin and parading naked before his subjects for quite some time,

Come the election, it wont be just the children he has let down crying out, "the Emperor is wearing nothing at all"
