Turkey: Smoking ban comes into force today

FOCUS Information Agency - A smoking ban in all indoor public places, including bars, cafes and restaurants, enters into force in Turkey on Sunday.

The ban extends to taxis, trains and open stadiums. Tents and all facilities with roofs will be labeled closed places.

The first stage of the law was brought into force in May 2008.

Turkey will be the seventh country in Europe to prohibit smoking in all closed public places. The country rates fourth in tobacco consumption and approximately 100,000 Turkish citizens die annually of tobacco-related diseases.
