Nuclear Issues: Russian and Iran begin operations at nuclear plant

Itar-Tass reports that Russia and Iran have begun operations to launch the Bushehr nuclear power plant.

“Today we begin a wide range of operations to launch the Bushehr nuclear power plant. In particular, one of such elements will be the loading of dummy fuel rods into the plant’s reactor, then we will conduct hydraulic tests,” the head of Russia’s state nuclear power corporation Rosatom, Sergei Kiriyenko, said upon arrival in Tehran on Wednesday.

The loading of dummy fuel rods into the first rector of the Bushehr plant will help check its readiness for the technical launch, an official of Atomstroiexport, the general contractor of the Bushehr project, told Itar-Tass.
