Lebanon: Lebanese defense minister says smuggled plastic materials were not explosives

Lebanese defense minister ruled out Monday night that the plastic material found in a garbage truck Sunday allegedly smuggled to UN Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL)headquarter were explosives, As-Safier daily reported Tuesday.

The Italian unit working under UNIFIL arrested says two Lebanese cleaners and turned them over to the Lebanese army, after they were accused of smuggling plastic explosive material into the headquarters in southern Lebanon town of Tibnin.

"The plastic materials were not explosives, the two people arrested in the case were released," Defense Minister Elias Murr told reporters before a cabinet session meeting Monday night.
