Sri Lanka: 22 terrorists killed, 33 wounded and 15 others reportedly either killed or wounded

Following a significant victory over the LTTE terrorists by capturing the LTTE's main sea tiger base in the western coast, army troops continuing their offensive march further into LTTE dominated areas inflecting damages to the enemy, the finalized military report received from the battlefront said. 22 terrorists were killed, 33 wounded and 15 others reportedly either killed or wounded due to the clashes reported in Jaffna, Vavuniya, Mannar and Welioya theaters of ballet yesterday, July 16, the report stated.

In Jaffna theatre of battle, 2 LTTE terrorists were killed by the army snipers deployed in Kattiyaratan and Muhamalai areas.

In Wanni theatre, Vavuniya front, clashes between security forces and terrorists were reported from Periyamarailuppai, Kuttimulai, Pandiyankulam, Palaimoddai and Navvi areas, the report said.

Troops ambushed an LTTE movement in general area Periyamarailuppai killing 4 LTTE terrorists. Meanwhile, in a separate confrontation took place in Kuttimulai 2 more LTTE terrorists were killed. A soldier suffered injuries due to LTTE retaliation was admitted to the Ampara hospital. In another confrontation took place in last afternoon in general area Pandiyankulam, 4 LTTE terrorists received injuries, ground troops confirmed.

Troops attacked at terror bunker defence in Palaimoddai area and intercepted radio communication revealed that an LTTE terrorist was killed in this attack. Meanwhile, 5 terrorists were killed while 19 others suffered injuries due to the clashes sparked between security forces and the LTTE terrorists in general area Navvi during the day. An army soldier made his supreme sacrifice for the sake of motherland in a confrontation took place in this area, the report said.

In Mannar front, after capturing the LTTE's main sea tiger base in Vidattaltivu troops launched consolidating operations in the area. 3 LTTE bodies of LTTE terrorists killed in this attack found in this operation. Further, 4 vehicles used by the terrorists were also fund by the troops. A Dump truck, a motor bike, a boom truck and a Canter were among them. Two army soldiers also have made their supreme sacrifice on behalf of the motherland and 6 others suffered injuries, the report further said.

Meanwhile, troops engaged in mine clearing operation in general area Palampiddi unearthed 6 anti-personnel mines and a booby trap.

In Welioya front, confrontations occurred between troops and terrorists in north of Janakapura, Kiriibbanwewa and Andankulam areas. 8 terrorists were killed, 10 more wounded during these clashes, the report said. Further, 15 other terrorists reportedly either killed or wounded. 9 soldiers also received injuries due to the confrontations and anti-personnel mine explosions.

Troops engaged in mine clearing operations in north of Janakapura and Kiriibbanwewa areas troops have unearthed 90 anti-personnel mines and 7 Improvised Explosive Devices, the report added.
