US sailors win hearts and minds

OK, I hate that overused cliche "winning hearts and minds" but it's 1:45am and my brain went to bed long before my body. However, I thought US readers would be interested in this charming little tale.

Usually when 7,000 American sailors hit town, the normal reaction would be to think...well you know what the normal reaction would be - regardless of the nationality!

But there is also another side - one that doesn't make headline news in "nudge, nudge, wink, wink," newspapers. The sailors from the USS Kittyhawk for example have been visiting children's hospitals here in Sydney - much to the delight of the kids - especially when they saluted the littlies. Navy personnel have even helped an ambulance station get it's records section in order.

Sure, the bars will be full - and good luck to them. But it's not all "On The Town".

Good on yer lads!
