Taxation: Venezuela plans tax on luxury goods

The man the US loves to hate - well, one of the many anyway - President Hugo Chavez, has announced plans to tax luxury property including second homes, expensive cars and art collections.

Chavez said proceeds of the new taxes, which have yet to be fully spelled out, would redistribute wealth by funding newly created communal councils at the neighbourhood level.

Chavez who apparently sees himself as some latter day Robin Hood, said: "Oh, you have a yacht? Perfect, give to me, buddy. You have a BMW? Well, that's fine. You go around Caracas in a tremendous car. You have a house where you live and another one by sea... You have some marvellous art collections... come here, buddy."

I guess the difference between Chavez and Bush, is that Chavez steals from the rich to give to the poor, while Bush steals from the Iraqis to give to his mates
