Thai Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont, is to visit Malaysia next week to seek cooperation to end unrest in Thailand's predominantly Muslim far South where a separatist insurgency has claimed more than 1,700 lives in nearly three years.

Speaking to journalists after returning from his trip to the Northeast, General Surayud said his one-day official visit is scheduled for the middle of next week to seek bilateral cooperation as friendly countries who shared common borders.

Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak, said "window of opportunity" is now present.
