Energy: China and Tajikistan sign $340 million power contracts

Tajik and Chinese power companies have signed contracts worth $340 million for construction of high-voltage electricity lines, a spokesman for the Tajik company said.

He said the firm, Barki Tochik, and China Theban Electric Apparatus Stock Co. had agreed to build a 500-kW 350-km line linking Tajikistan's southern and northern regions and a 220-kW line linking south and east.

China Exim Bank has granted a $300 million loan for these projects, and the Tajik government would finance 10% of the project's value.
