Women's Issues: Afghanistan deports 47 Chinese women for selling sex and alcohol

Afghanistan has deported 47 Chinese women for alleged involvement in prostitution and selling alcohol. Abdul Jabar Sabet, a legal adviser at the Interior Ministry, said that the women were put on a plane from Kabul on Wednesday, after being picked up form guesthouses in Kabul. He explained that many of them did not have restaurants or kitchens and were obviously brothels.

The Khaleeji Times, reports that, "dozens of bars, restaurants and guesthouses have opened around Kabul since the fall of the Taleban in 2001, catering to the burgeoning expatriate community and wealthy Afghans".

The selling of alcohol is banned under the Constitution, but it is available in shops and some restaurants, where it is only supposed to be served to foreigners.
