Small Business: Britain's SMEs may face fines for carbon dioxide emissions

Britain's SEMS could face being fined if they breach carbon dioxide emission limits. The Department of Trade and Industry is considering a proposal put forward by the Carbon Trust to introduce a system where companies would have a certain ration of permits to produce carbon dioxide and would have to buy extra permits should they exceed those targets.

The trust has been critical of companies wasting energy by blowing hot air through open doorways or leaving office computers or lights on overnight when no one is in the building.
