Environmental Awards: And the winner is, your friend and mine - Kofi Annan

Claudia Rosett, has a fascinating article in the Weekly Standard, regarding the General Secretary Of The Caviar and Cocktail Circuit, (my words, not hers), Kofi Annan.

A press release from the great mans office announcing him as winner of the biennial Zayed International Prize for the Environment, failed to mention he received half a million dollars in prize money.

The jury voted unanimously for the United Nations Secretary-General. A jury that included the executive director of the U.N. Environment Program, Klaus Toepfer, and the U.N. undersecretary-general for Economic and Social Affairs, José Antonio Ocampo. Pakistan's ambassador to the U.N., Munir Akram, (formerly president of the U.N.'s Economic and Social Council) was an observer.

Anyone see a pattern here?
