Women's Issues: Japan approves gender equality plan

The Japanese government has approved a plan aimed at recruiting and supporting more women in top government jobs.

The measures also provide more support for working mothers who will be able to work shorter hours while raising children or caring for family members.

The plan is a follow-up to the government's Gender Equality Basic Plan, introduced in 2000.
