International Development: Work tools for Ghana

Not an earth shattering, high-profile, "fashionable cause of the month" type story, but one which has a lot more direct impact than tacky white wristbands made in Chinese sweatshops.

Ghana Web, reports that The Centre for the Development of People (CEDEP) has handed over work tools to 56 artisans in the Upper West Region of Ghana, donated by Tools for Self-Reliance, a British NGO. They included masonry, carpentry, sewing and leather works tools. Use of the tools is closely monitored to ensure they are being used to fight poverty.

Now that Mali and Niger have dropped from the headlines and lost their 15 minutes of fame, perhaps Ghana may come to the attention of has-been celebrities.
