International Development: Japan gives $100 million to Palestine

The Japanese government is to give Palestinians a $49.7 million grant to help improve infrastructure in the Gaza Strip and northern West Bank.

The sum is the first part of $100 million in economic aid to the Palestinians that Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, promised during a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Tokyo in May.
