International Development: Fiji - NGO supports the right of HIV positive women to give birth

Following confirmation that 14 HIV positive women have given birth to HIV positive babies in Fiji, an NGO has reaffirmed that it is a woman's right to make informed choices about pregnancy and childbirth regardless of her HIV status.

AIDS Task Force director, Jane Keith Reid referred to a statement from the SPC, UNICEF, WHO and UNAIDS which supports a woman's right to give birth, regardless of whether they are HIV positive or negative.

Other experts believe that preventing a HIV positive woman from giving birth constitutes discrimination
