Retail: British retail sales are down - so blame the weather

Retail sales in the UK are the worst in ten years with furniture, floor coverings and large electrical goods feeling the brunt of consumer caution.

Despite the fact that retail sales have been falling regularly in Britain, (and globally) the analysts blame the slump on the weather. It seems it's either too hot, too cold, too wet or too dry.

There are many reasons for the poor state of British retail sales - but the weather is not top of the list. It takes more than just bad weather to explain the fall of previous retail giants such as Marks & Spencers and Littlewoods.
