Human Resources: Muslims in Assam flee workplaces

The Daily Pioneer reports that Bengali speaking Muslims in Assam are fleeing their workplaces fearing a crackdown by authorities to deport them to Bangladesh.

A Government spokesman dismissed their fears as "mischievous propaganda' by people with 'vested interests' to scare away religious and linguistic minority people to leave their workplaces."

Because nearly 90 per cent of the labourers working in the construction industry are Bengali speaking Muslims, construction works in many cities has ground to a halt.
