International Development: President and wealthy businessman, urges end to poverty in Mozambique

Mozambican President Armando Guebuza has urged all Mozambicans, to fight against poverty.

Guebuza has told all Mozambicans to bear in mind that "poverty is not a destiny," and"we can change all that, if we use allavailable means and resources to develop production, in cooperation with the government."

Guebuza is a successful and wealthy businessman who made his fortune in the construction, exports and fishing industries.

As minister of the interior in 1983, he was responsible for "Operation Production", that involved thousands of unemployed youth in Maputo and Beira,forcibly sent to work camps in the isolated northern province of Niassa
