The first regiment of state-of-the-art anti-aircraft missile system
S-500 will cover Moscow and the center of Russia, commander of the air
defense and missile troops, Major-General Andrei Demin said.
"I
am sure that after the development and tests, the first regimental group
of S-500 will enter service for covering the center of Russia and
Moscow," Demin told reporters after attending military drills on Ashuluk
range ground.
Earlier, it was reported that the drills with the
participation of air defense missile systems S-300 and S-400 were held
within the framework of the scheduled large-scale tactical exercises
combining air and missile defense forces on Ashuluk range ground in the
Astrakhan region.
S-500 "Prometheus" is a Russian anti-aircraft
missile system, which was developed by JSC Almaz-Antey as a new
generation of anti-aircraft missile systems, in which it was is supposed
to apply the principle of separate solution of tasks to destroy
ballistic and aerodynamic targets. The prime goal of the complex is to
counter medium range ballistic missiles, hypersonic cruise missiles,
UAVs, hypersonic missiles, low-orbit satellites and space weapons
launched from hypersonic aircraft, as well as attack drones and
hypersonic orbital platforms.
