Tehran, Jan 8, IRNA -- Iran is the leading missile power in the region, senior defense official said on Tuesday.

Deputy Minister of Defense and Logistics of the Armed Forces Brigadier-General Majid Bokaei paid tribute to father of Iranian missile technology, Martyr Asghar Eslami and said that thanks to efforts and sacrifices made by devotees such as martyr Eslami, Iran has developed national missile system.

He said that Saddam Hussein (former Iraqi dictator) in the last days of the Iraqi-imposed war (1980-1988) intended to bring Iran to its knees by firing missiles on civilian targets of Iran.

He recalled the era that all countries refused to sell missiles and advanced military equipment to Iran.

“The enemies knew if under pressure from missile attacks Iran resorted to mass production of missiles, they couldn’t stand in front of us anymore, hence, they put forward the ceasefire plan,” he added.

He said that thank God under the leadership of the Supreme leader, Iran is currently in the best possible defense preparedness.
