Ghana: Iran's FM says Ghana can be model of development for African countries

Accra, Jan 8, IRNA – IRI Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said here Monday Ghana is pioneer of development in Africa and can be a model for the other countries in this continent.

According to the dispatched IRNA reporter, in continuation of his African tour, Salehi during his Monday evening, local time, visit of the Islamic University of Ghana announced the Islamic Republic of Iran's readiness for academic and scientific cooperation with that African country, emphatically.

He meanwhile described the Iran-Ghana relations as very good, reiterating 'This University must rely to a greater extent on the people in order offer more academic services to the nation.

Salehi emphasized the need for paying attention to training and education, particularly the young generation, saying that education is the basic need for any country.

At the event the Head of Ghana Islamic University, Nasrollah Sekhavati, too, gave a report on the activities of the university, reiterating, 'This University that is affiliated to Jameat ul-Mustafa has 800 girl and boy students in management, communications and religion fields of study.'

He added, 'The majority of students and professors at this University are from Ghana.'

The Iranian top diplomat also visited the Islamic Republic of Iran Cultural Attaché on Monday and got acquainted in person with the activities of that center.

Salehi in the meeting reiterated, 'Dissemination of religion and culture is a tough task and those who teach the Glorious Qur'an must have both decent behaviors and great patience.'

He meanwhile emphasized the need for taking care to observe decent ethical values if we propagate for Islam.

The IRI Cultural Attaché, Zia Bakhshayesh, too, during the visit offered a report on the activities of the center.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran would on Tuesday end his two-day visit of Ghana and depart of Burkina Faso.

Republic of Ghana is a country in West Africa. It is bordered by Ivory Coast to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south. The word Ghana means 'Warrior King' and is derived from the ancient Ghana Empire.

Ghana is a country located on the Gulf of Guinea, only a few degrees north of the Equator, therefore giving it a warm climate. The country spans an area of 238,500 km2 (92,085 sq mi). It is surrounded by Togo to the east, the Ivory Coast to the west, Burkina Faso to the north and the Gulf of Guinea (Atlantic Ocean) to the south.
