Lebanon: President to attend Tehran NAM summit

Beirut, Aug 22, IRNA – Lebanese President Michel Suleiman will travel to Iran on August 30 to attend the 16th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit.

Several Lebanese ministers including Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour and a number of journalists would accompany President Suleiman during his two-day visit to Tehran.

The Lebanese president is expected to meet several top Iranian officials including his counterpart President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad on the sidelines of the event.

The 16th NAM Summit will be held in Tehran from August 26-31.

The Non-Aligned Movement has 118 member states representing the interests and priorities of developing nations.

During the event, Iran will take over the NAM presidency for the next three-year period from Egypt. NAM summit is held once every three years in a member state. Iran became a member in 1979.

Egypt hosted the NAM ministerial meeting on May 9-10, 2012.

Venezuela will host the 17th NAM Summit in 2015.
