Balkans: Serbia - Partial removal of barricades step toward resolving situation in north of Kosovo

Government of Serbia

Belgrade, 27 Oct 2011 - Director of the Serbian government’s Office of Media Relations Milivoje Mihajlovic stated that this morning’s partial removal of barricades in order to let KFOR units pass represents a first step toward resolving situation in the north of Kosovo.

In an appearance on the B92 TV station Mihajlovic said that municipal representatives in the north of Kosovo do not have any problems with the movements of EULEX representatives as long as the mission remains within status-neutral lines and expressed his hope that the mission will stand strong in the face of Pristina’s pressure and do its job as its mandate stipulates.

He reiterated that dialogue is the best way to resolve all issues, and that we have to be wise in order to get the Belgrade and Pristina negotiating teams back to negotiate and continue talks about concrete issues regarding lives of Kosovo-Metohija people.

Dialogue is the only way to avoid danger and new conflicts, the only way to give the Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija any chance to remain there, and the only way to open a possibility for historic and essential reconciliation of the Serbs and the Albanians, Mihajlovic said.
