PanARMENIAN.Net - Military expert Artsrun Hovhannisyan considers that Baku’s new threats to attack on Stepanakert-bound civil aircrafts are connected with negotiation process and meeting in Kazan.
Hovhannisyan told a press conference in Yerevan that they thus pursue aim to test and press upon us, solve some issues connected with our statements on delaying airport opening for technical reasons.
As regards technical side of the issue, the expert thinks that, although Azerbaijan purchased new air defence systems, which increased its capacities, the relief hampers attacks on aircrafts flying to Stepanakert.
Hovhannisyan expressed opinion that Azerbaijan would hardly dare attack civil aircrafts. “From the viewpoint of political will, I do not think they will venture this step,” he said.
The political expert Narek Galstyan shared this opinion saying that attack on civil aircrafts will mean war, and Azerbaijan understands this.
According to Azerbaijani media outlets, Director of Azerbaijani civil aviation General Department Arif Mamedov stated that “IAC will not provide Stepanakert a certificate, and if any states operate flights to NKR, economic sanctions will be imposed on them.” “Even if Armenia applies, the certificate will not be granted,” Mamedov said confirming Azerbaijan’s threats to destroy Karabakh-bound civil aircrafts.
