Angola: Angola/Tripartite meeting recommends voluntary repatriation of refugees

Lubango- Participants to the 2nd tripartite meeting between Angola, Namibia and the UN High Commission for Refugees today in Lubango recommended information and awareness campaigns about the voluntary repatriation process of angolan refugees settled in Namibia.

The 30 participants to the meeting also recommended the check of nationality of the refugees and their intention to return to Angola and voiced for the mobilization of resources for a suitable voluntary repatriation.

Almost 6,000 angolans have settled in Namibia as refugees, 1,000 are registered and only 113 have expressed the willingness to return.

The three delegations were respectively chaired by the angolan minister of assistance and social reinsertion, Joao Baptista Kussumua, the namibian minister of home affairs and immigration, Rosalia Nghidinwa, and the head of the UNHCR office in Angola, Zelmira Sinclair.
