Human Rights: Reform of the overburdened European Court of Human Rights

Swisster - The Swiss government says next week's ministerial conference (February 18-19) in Interlaken is aimed at "decisively encouraging the reform of the chronically overburdened European Court of Human Rights (ECHR)".

Foreign Affairs Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey and Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, who heads the federal department of Justice and Police (FDJP), lead the Swiss delegation at the event.

On Thursday, Switzerland said it was hoping for a joint declaration to emerge from the conference and for the 47 member states to support an increase in the court's short-term efficiency and later reform
