Terrorism: Minister warns Goa could be the target for a major terror strike

The Straits Times reports India's resort state of Goa - popular with foreign tourists, particularly from Britain, Israel and the United States - could be the target for a major terror strike, a local minister said.

'Available intelligence inputs indicate that a strong desire is entertained by various Pakistan-based terrorist groups to indulge in spectacular violence in Goa,' state home minister Ravi Naik told the legislative assembly on Thursday.

Mr Naik did not elaborate on the specific nature of the threat but said the former Portuguese colony had so far avoided attack because of the 'untiring efforts' of police.
