Human Rights: Israel takes action against two soldiers over car torching

SBS World News reports the Israeli military has suspended two officers pending an investigation into charges relating to the alleged torching of Palestinians' cars.

"The military has opened an investigation and has in the meantime suspended the two officers whose actions do not conform to (army) norms," it said.

Soldiers serving under the two officers are suspected of setting fire to the abandoned cars of Palestinians whom they had chased when the latter tried to enter Israeli territory from the occupied West Bank.

The soldiers allegedly set the vehicles on fire and tipped them over into a ravine, acts that were videotaped by Palestinian witnesses in the region of Hebron.
