Colombia: Colombia hails selection as host of the next Summit of the Americas

Xinhua reports Colombian President Alvaro Uribe has hailed the selection of his country as host of the next Summit of the Americas.

"This is good news for Colombia's tourism," Uribe said at the opening ceremony of an annual tourism meeting.

On Wednesday, the Organization of American States (OAS) unanimously agreed Colombia would host the sixth Summit of the Americas in two or three years' time.

Colombian Foreign Minister Jaime Bermudez said Wednesday that "Colombia has the infrastructure, the technical and academic capacity" to host the summit.
