Bilateral Relations: Iran-Russia military cooperation "absolutely legal"

IRNA – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday that Iran-Russia military and technical cooperation are in accordance with the international and Russian regulations.
“All our actions in the sphere of military technical cooperation with Iran are absolutely legal,” Lavrov made the remark answering questions of an audience of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Lavrov said all the weapons Russia is selling to Iran are fully defensive.

“All that we sell to Iran or other countries does not fall under any international or national bans. We in Russia have in effect one of the most stringent laws on control over military export. All weapons that we sell to Iran are only defensive,” he added.

According to the Minister, the issue of supply of weapons by Russia to Iran, in particular, air defense systems, was touched upon during his meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that was held a few hours before the press briefing.
