Peru: Leftist rebels kill 13 soldiers in 'narco-terrorist' attack

Radio Netherlands reports leftist rebels in Peru have staged one their deadliest operations in years, killing 13 soldiers in an ambush of a military patrol in the country's remote southeast. The attackers used dynamite and grenades to carry out the assault.

Authorities attribute the attack to the Shining Path rebel group.

Defence Minister Antero Flores Araoz called the perpetrators of Sunday's attacks "narco-terrorists".
