Human Rights: Obama's statement means criminal investigations must follow - human rights group

In response to President Barack Obama's statement during his First 100 Days press conference that waterboarding is torture, Amnesty International's executive director Larry Cox issued the following statement:

"Amnesty International agrees with President Obama's assessment that waterboarding is torture. Because torture is a crime under domestic and international law, the next step is inescapable. The president must direct Attorney General Holder to investigate these criminal acts. There are no shortcuts to security and no shortcuts to restoring American values."

Amnesty International is a Nobel Peace Prize-winning grassroots activist organization with more than 2.2 million supporters, activists and volunteers in more than 150 countries campaigning for human rights worldwide. The organization investigates and exposes abuses, educates and mobilizes the public, and works to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied.
