Argentina: Argentina claims vast area of seabed

ABC reports Argentina has formally laid claim to a vast expanse of ocean stretching as far as the Antarctic, including sovereignty over land disputed by Britain.

Argentina's claim not only includes the disputed Falkland Islands, but includes sea bed territory that extends all the way to Antarctica and includes considerable territory in dispute with the UK and Chile.

Under the UN's Law of the Sea, a country enjoys certain rights where it can prove its continental shelf extends beyond the usual 200-mile limit.
