International Relations: Chile and Argentina unite as Britain tries to claim territory and seabed in Antarctica

Legistators from Argentina and Chile who have been meeting in Antarctica, have rejected British claims to an area of territory and seabed in the region that's potentially rich in oil and gas.

The area is also claimed by Chile and Argentina.

The politicians set aside past territorial disputes between their countries and said neither recognised the basis of the British claim.

A UN decision on the British bid is expected in May.
