Latvia: Latvian farmers force resignation of Agriculture Minister

Xinhua reports Latvia's Agriculture Minister Martins Roze resigned on Tuesday after farmers launched large scale protests against the government's agricultural policy.

Thousands of farmers, many driving tractors, participated in Tuesday's protests, pressing for more aid to offset falling rural sector incomes.

The farmers headed to the capital Riga from various parts of the country, paralyzing traffic on some highways. Those who managed to get into the city protested in front of the government building and the Agriculture Ministry building and demanded the resignation of Roze.
