Gaza: Profiling Hamas and their long history of conflict with Israel

The Israeli military has closed in on densely populated areas of the Gaza Strip, seeking to kill gunmen loyal to the militant group Hamas. Israeli war planes are pounding Gaza as part of an effort to stop Hamas rocket attacks on the Jewish state. In this report, VOA correspondent Meredith Buel profiles Hamas, which for decades has sought to provide social services for everyday Palestinians while at the same time supporting the long-term goal of destroying Israel.
