Domestic Violence: 70 women in Spain were killed by their partner or ex-partner last year

AFP reports at least 70 women in Spain were killed by their partner or ex-partner last year despite efforts to reduce domestic violence, the government said yesterday.

There are still seven ongoing investigations that could bring the toll up to 77 deaths, the government’s domestic violence tsar Miguel Lorente told a press conference.In 2007 there were 71 deaths related to domestic violence.

Official figures estimate that 400,000 women in Spain are currently subjected to violent physical abuse by their partners.
