Madeleine McCann: That was the week that was

Well thank God that week is now over. An obscene blitz by the fawning British media enlisted to scramble to the aid of the MDF - McCann Defence Force. All that was missing was Kenneth More driving along in an old MG with a pipe in his mouth, telling us what a frightfully fine family the McCanns are.

"Poor Kate" and "Frail Kate" bombarded targets such as logic, common sense - and the vision to see that Kate changes expression as quickly as a camera shutter. One second she's in tears then "click" and she's as beaming and confident as a cup final winner.

Of course there was the now compulsory shot at the Portuguese police, and the customary hijacking of other people's tragedy by using the case of the poor Austrian girl as a shred of hope.

Hope? Who for Kate? For you or for Madeleine?

Personally I would be scared to death at the thought of my daughter being locked up with a deranged sex offender. I certainly would not be so bloody gleeful at the prospect as Kate appeared to be. But of course this whole circus long ago ceased being about Madeleine - it's all about Rothley's finest - beaming examples of parental responsibility whose only sin is to have made a "marginal error" as one reporter described what most people call neglect.

At least one person knows what happened. At least one person knows where the little mite is. At least one person can answer the question so many caring, concerned people around the world want to know.

At least one person can give a little girl dignity, respect and peace.

Whoever knows - it's time. Time to speak.

Not only for Madeleine - but also for yourself.
