Burma: Junta welcomes help from "friendly" nations

News.com.au reports that foreign aid teams wanting to come to Burma after the devastating cyclone would have to negotiate with the regime to be granted access, a Burma minister said today.

"For expert teams from overseas to come here, they have to negotiate with the foreign ministry and our senior authorities,'' Maung Maung Swe, the minister for social welfare, said.

His comments came as the regime's information minister said Burma, where more than 15,000 people are believed dead from tropical cyclone Nargis, was grateful for offers of assistance from "friendly'' nations.

China and Thailand have sent planes with aid and other Asian nations have also offered aid, Maung Maung Swe said.
